Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Description
A syndrome affecting children, adolescents, and adults that may be mild or severe and is associated with functional deviations of the central nervous system without signs of major neurologic or psychiatric disturbance.
Signs / Symptons
This syndrome is characterized by short attention span, hyperactivity, and poor concentration. Other symptoms include impairment in perception, conceptualization, language, memory, and motor skills.
Cause / Effect
The condition is ten times more prevalent in boys than in girls and may result from genetic factors, biochemical irregularities including improper digestive function, or perinatal/postnatal injury or disease. The presence of compounds with opioid-like activities resulting from incomplete digestion have also been implied in the cause of this condition.
Rationale
Proper digestion and elimination of toxicity may lessen the impact of the biochemical irregularities and/or decrease the sensitivity to that irregularity.

ForYourGrowth Nutrition and Enzyme Treatment Goals
**Diet is extremely important and nutrition or food intolerances need to be carefully examined. Avoid simple sugars as well as fruit juice and vegetables with high glycemic indexes that cause blood glucose to rise rapidly or take ample digestive enzymes to counteract the sharp rise in blood glucose. Definitely eliminate caffeine that is in cola’s, chocolate, tea, and other food items.
**Many ADD people have problems digesting proteins. However, rather than going on a low-protein diet, we suggest taking Protease supplements with meals to help digestion.
Enzyme therapy balances the body in several ways. Enzymes work to improve digestion and nutrient acquisition. Enzymes support the immune system by building healthy organs and blood by reducing levels of toxicity from bacteria, viruses, parasites, heavy metals, pesticides, and radiation poisoning.
**It is important to address the patient’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle on an individual basis and in regard to body type (see Digestive Balance Protocol). Support products are recommended as needed based on the patient’s condition. Enzyme therapy can be used safely in conjunction with other medical therapies.
