Hemorrhoids
DESCRIPTION
Also called piles, hemorrhoids are distended varicose veins in the anus. While they
are often painless, the swollen wall of the vein is fragile and thus is prone to
rupture and bleeding. Hemorrhoids usually affect people between the ages of 20 and
50 and are especially common in those who are pregnant or obese, owing to the increased
pressure within the veins of the lower abdomen.
SIGNS/SYMPTONS
The four basic symptoms of hemorrhoids include: bright red blood on the toilet paper,
the stool, or in the toilet bowl following a bowel movement; pain, especially during
bowel movements; anal itching; and mucus discharge from the anus.
ETIOLOGY
All veins are lined with valves that permit blood to flow in only one direction,
i.e., back to the heart. However, excess pressure on these valves can cause them
to weaken and fail, thereby allowing blood either to flow in the wrong direction
or to stagnate. The vein may then engorge with blood. In the anus, this results
in a hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids are caused by increased pressure on the veins of the
anus. Prolonged sitting, constipation, and hard, dry stools that are difficult to
pass can lead to straining and sitting on the toilet for long periods of time, all
of which add pressure on the anal veins. Failure to follow through on the urge to
defecate can also lead to hemorrhoids. In women, probably the single most common
cause is pregnancy and childbirth. Obesity and loss of muscle tone due to old age,
an episiotomy, or rectal surgery can also promote hemorrhoids.
RATIONALE
Digestive enzymes and probiotics can help prevent constipation and facilitate normal
bowel movements, which would thereby eliminate the need for straining or excessive
time sitting on the toilet. Furthermore, Transformation's core philosophy of supporting
nutrient acquisition with digestive enzyme therapy is yet another reason why enzymes
may reduce the occurrence of hemorrhoids. Providing proper nutrients to cells, tissues,
and veins on a regular basis can only strengthen cellular integrity throughout the
body.
** It is important to address the patient’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle on an individual
basis and in regard to body type (see Digestive Balance Protocol). Support
products are recommended as needed based on the patient’s condition. Enzyme therapy
can be used safely in conjunction with other medical therapies.
Option I protocols require prior application approval from For Your Growth to purchase

PROTOCOL (for Hemorrhoids)
* For effective healing, form a paste with water and 1 cap TPP Probiotic or
Plantadophilus and apply to affected area with a guaze pad at least 2x a day.
** ReleaseZyme intended for short-term use during the healing process and
periodical use afterwards as needed for constipation.
NUTRITION
Our recommendation is to determine and follow the diet for your body type. Additional
forms of high-fiber foods including fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole-grain breads
and cereals is recommended. Inadequate water intake is one of the main causes of
constipation. Therefore, it is very important to drink plenty of water, at least
half your body weight in ounces daily.
* The above suggestions are intended as a basic guideline. It is always important
to address the patient’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle on an individual basis and
according to body type. Support products may be added as needed based on the patient’s
condition. Enzyme therapy can and often should be used in conjunction with other
therapies.
