Inflammation
DESCRIPTION
Inflammation is a process through which the body mobilizes its defense mechanism
against an injury-causing agent and initiates a reparation mechanism of the affected
tissues. In the event of inflammation, a healthy immune system sends out an accumulation
of white blood cells to the site to help destroy invading microorganisms and repair
the damaged tissue. Several other immune cells and molecules also play an important
part in this process. A timely and controlled inflammatory process is beneficial
to the body. However, a generalized, perpetual inflammation condition overwhelms
the system and undermines the body’s harmony and balance. This latter form of inflammation
can be controlled.
SIGNS/SYMPTONS
Distinguished by redness, swelling, heat, and pain in a tissue.
CAUSE
A chemical or physical injury, lymphatic congestion, or infection can result in
acute inflammation. Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is often the result
of long-term poor digestion, infection, and toxicity.
NUTRITIONAL, LIFESTYLE AND ATTITUDE RECOMMENDATIONS
The rationale for enzyme therapy is to control the extra-vascular proteins at the
inflammation site, modulate the immune system, and control the secretion of the
various cytokines to prevent generalized inflammation. This will ultimately result
in the drainage of the inflammatory process waste products and the support of the
immune system. Protease supplementation has well-established benefits of cleaning
the blood and reducing inflammation through better kidney function. Additional recommendations
include a healthy diet, lifestyle modification to reduce/manage stress, the identification
of food allergies, exercise, detoxification, and optimum support of the immune system
through enzyme and herbal therapy. Enzymes work to improve inflammation through
better digestion, nutrient acquisition and elimination. Enzymes further reduce inflammation
through support of the immune system by building healthy organs and blood by reducing
levels of toxicity from bacteria, viruses, parasites, heavy metals, pesticides,
and radiation poisoning.
**It is important to address the patient’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle on an individual
basis and in regard to body type (see Digestive Balance Protocol). Support
products are recommended as needed based on the patient’s condition. Enzyme therapy
can be used safely in conjunction with other medical therapies.
