Leaky Gut Syndrome
DESCRIPTION
Leaky gut is an extremely common problem that is poorly recognized and is rarely
tested for. The main functions of the gut are (1) to digest food; (2) to absorb
nutrients such as amino acids, fatty acids, glucose, vitamins, and minerals; (3)
to deliver those nutrients into the bloodstream; and (4) to serve as the first line
of defense against infection. In leaky gut syndrome, gut wall permeability is increased.
Large spaces develop between the cells of the gut wall, allowing bacteria, toxins,
and food particles to enter the blood stream.
SIGNS/SYMPTONS
The signs and symptoms of leaky gut syndrome are not exclusive. Rather, many times
a diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome, food allergies, chemical sensitivity, fibromyalgia,
and even multiple sclerosis are given when leaky gut syndrome may be the underlying
cause. Any signs and symptoms that look like a compromised immune system or an autoimmune
disorder may be associated with a leaky gut.
CAUSE
Inflammation or degenerative and/or atrophic damage to the mucous lining disrupts
the integrity of the gut wall, allowing macromolecules, antigens, and toxins to
enter the blood stream. This initiates an immune response to these otherwise harmless,
vital food proteins, thus setting the occurrence of frequent inflammatory processes.
FOR YOUR GROWTH IDEAS AND GOALS
The benefit of digestive enzymes in the case of Leaky Gut Syndrome is multifold.
Enzyme supplements work to reduce food allergies through the complete digestion
of food molecules, to repair the mucous lining, and to provide for immune system
modulation, the elimination of toxins, and improved blood health.
Enzyme therapy balances the body in several ways. Enzymes work to improve digestion
and nutrient acquisition. Enzymes support the immune system by building healthy
organs and blood by reducing levels of toxicity from bacteria, viruses, parasites,
heavy metals, pesticides, and radiation poisoning.
**It is important to address the patient’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle on an individual
basis and in regard to body type (see Digestive Balance Protocol). Support
products are recommended as needed based on the patient’s condition. Enzyme therapy
can be used safely in conjunction with other medical therapies.

Option I protocols require prior application approval from For Your Growth to purchase
Professional Protocol Strength TPP products.
NUTRITIONAL PROTOCOL (for Leaky Gut Syndrome)
Eating small, frequent meals (together with a digestive enzyme supplement) is supportive
in terms of placing minimal stress on the digestive system at any given time. As
always, we suggest that the patient follows a diet based on their biochemical individualism.
Often, leaky gut syndrome occurs in the "Neuro" body type, and so we suggest
avoiding or reducing the intake of dairy products (see Digestive Balance Protocol).
