Menopause
DESCRIPTION
Menopause is the developmental stage in a woman's life when the cyclic function
of the ovaries and menstrual periods cease. The average age at which menopause occurs
has been 50, but now it is documented to be happening at younger and younger ages.
SIGNS/SYMPTONS
Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, irregular menses, frequent urination,
and psychological symptoms such as poor memory, poor concentration, tearfulness,
anxiety, poor sleep, and poor libido. Changes in metabolism include a possible rise
in blood pressure and an increase in fats in the blood.
CAUSE
Natural menopause is the result of the natural aging process and the decreased production
of estrogen. Artificial menopause is the result of a total hysterectomy, which eliminates
hormone secretion by the ovaries and ends menstrual periods. Other artificial causes
may include chemotherapy or radiation therapy to the pelvis to treat cancer.
BALANCED HORMONAL HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS
Nutrition needs to become an important focus for menopausal women. A common but
risky remedy is estrogen replacement therapy, or HRT. A safer approach is the proper
digestion of fats to make hormones and support of the liver to regulate hormones
and achieve ideal body weight. In addition to relaxation, one way to control stress
is through exercise, including at least some form of body workout. Even more important
is making sure you are getting the proper nutrients (vitamins, minerals, and amino
acids) to keep the body at its healthiest state.
**It is important to address the patient’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle on an individual
basis and in regard to body type (see Digestive Balance Protocol). Support
products are recommended as needed based on the patient’s condition. Enzyme therapy
can be used safely in conjunction with other medical therapies.
