Multiple Myeloma
DESCRIPTION
Multiple myeloma is a form of cancer resulting from the over-production of a single
clone of plasma cells, a type of white blood cell produced in the bone marrow. Plasma
cells proliferate in the marrow, infiltrate adjacent bone tissue, and may spread
throughout the skeleton, resulting in bone pain and fractures of fragile, brittle
bones. Proliferation of plasma cells interferes with the formation of red cells,
platelets, and white cells. Myeloma also involves the production of large amounts
of a type of immunoglobulin termed myeloma protein. Multiple myeloma most often
affects those over 50 and is usually fatal within two years of diagnosis.
SIGNS/SYMPTONS
Symptoms may arise from kidney failure, hypercalcemia, and compression of the spinal
cord due to collapse of the vertebrae. Symptoms include bone pain (especially along
the spine), unexplainable bone fractures, fatigue, pallor, shortness of breath,
frequent bacterial infections, increased bruising and bleeding, headache and visual
disturbance.
CAUSE
The cause of multiple myeloma is unknown, although genetic factors may play a role.
Risk increases with age and exposure to radiation.
FOR YOUR GROWTH TREATMENT IDEAS AND GOALS
The goal of enzyme therapy with multiple myeloma is (1) to support nutrient acquisition,
(2) to improve circulation and blood health to support the immune system and delivery
of oxygen and nutrients, and (3) to assist the body in dealing with the immunoglobulin
production. The desired results are increased energy, increased stamina, and pain
management. Additionally, studies have shown that proteolytic enzymes can help control
the growth of some tumors.
**It is important to address the patient’s diet, exercise, and lifestyle on an individual
basis and in regard to body type (see Digestive Balance Protocol). Support
products are recommended as needed based on the patient’s condition. Enzyme therapy
can be used safely in conjunction with other medical therapies.

NUTRITIONAL PROTOCOL (for Multiple Myeloma)
With any serious condition affecting the immune system and blood health, a well
balanced diet high in antioxidants and nutrient dense foods is encouraged. Eating
foods to help keep a balanced pH (minimize acidity) will support bone health and
the maintenance of calcium in the bone.
